A special virtual forum, to encourage action to eliminate violence against women and girls, is being launched in the Quinte area.
The forum is part of a campaign called the Orange Campaign, an annual United Nations project to encourage action to eliminate violence against women and girls.
The colour orange has become a key symbol worldwide representing a future free from violence.
A number of local groups are running a forum on the internet to encourage discussion and action toward eradicating gender-based violence in the communities.
The 16 days between November 25 and December 10 are designated as Days of Activism.
To launch the 2020 campaign, GRANquinte (the local branch of Grandmothers Advocacy Network) with the United Nations Association Quinte Branch and Three Oaks Foundation are presenting a live webinar on Zoom to encourage discussion and action towards eradicating gender-based violence in the communities.
Executive Director Sandy Watson-Moyles of Three Oaks Shelter for women tells Quinte News, “There are people out there who don’t know that different services even exist in the community.”
“This is a communal responsibility to end the issues of violence against women. We all need to be aware. We need to be educated. We need to be vigilant and we need to be supporting each other.”
The virtual forum Standing Together Against Gender-based Violence begins at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday on Zoom.
