A local insurance company has made a significant donation towards the building of a new hospital in Picton.
The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation says Bay of Quinte Mutual Insurance Co. has committed $1.5 million gift towards the new build, which will be earmarked for the building of the diagnostic imaging department at the new hospital.
The foundation says the department will also be named after the company in recognition of their “transformational gift”.
With the donation, the foundation has now raised $11.3 million of its $16.5 million goal, which is the community share of the estimated $100 million new hospital project.
The build is going into the detail and design phase after a recent commitment of funds from the Provincial Government as well, with the new hospital expected to be completed by 2025.
