“In the event we have to do any type of isolation or move quickly into any type of isolation or move quickly into an area that needs extra protection, everything is readily available to the team members on their resident home areas.”
When questioned about the response to the influenza season approaching, Rollins indicated she hopes to see a better staff response to flu shots this year.
“Centennial Manor has been a little lower. Knowing what we know now, and knowing dealing with a pandemic as well as influenza we’re hoping to see an increase in the compliance rate with our team members.”
She was questioned about a government program for hiring new college graduates.
“The province did announce an initiative for PSWs to come into Long Term Care. The challenge we have with that for ourselves is we do have collective agreements to abide by and if we have full time hours our preference would be to give them to our own team members versus hiring a new grad. We have lots of hours if we have new grads who want to work and we can hire them part-time but full time hours should rightfully go to those in the home already and have earned their service with us.”
Regarding the second wave of COVID-19, Rollins says they are asking family members to follow the protocols, since it’s in everyone’s best interest.
