The Municipality of Tweed wants clear regulations on where marijuana growing operations can be located.
Tweed council has distributed a resolution province-wide demanding Health Canada consult with municipalities before issuing licences to grow marijuana.
Most municipalities have official plans and zoning in place guiding where such operations can be located but grow ops have been springing up outside those zones.
Quinte West council will discuss Tweed’s resolution at its meeting tonight (Monday). The resolution also asks that the province issue a fine of at least $100,000 to any company or individual who sets up a grow op without going through the municipal planning process.
The City of Quinte West has had its own issues with grow ops as can be seen in this story from February of this year.
