The Medical Officer of Health for Hastings Prince Edward issued a statement Wednesday on the resurgence of COVID-19 locally and across the province.
Dr. Piotr Oglaza says the second wave is not unexpected, and that the health unit is continuing to work with community partners to protect our region and enforce protocols that have been put in place to prevent the spread of the virus.
He says when a case is confirmed it is typically possible to identify all close contacts of the confirmed case directly within 24 hours and advise these close contacts of testing and isolation requirements and that if a situation arises where it is not possible to identify or reach all close contacts of a case steps would be taken to notify the general public about a possible exposure.
Oglaza also thanks members of the community for their work in keeping the local case numbers low and offers some reassurance that the health unit has processes in place to identify and respond to cases as they pop up.
