A long vacant store and building in downtown Trenton will be torn down starting next week.
The City of Quinte West has decided to take matters into its own hands and will begin demolition of
the former Mighty Dollar store on Monday.
the former Mighty Dollar store on Monday.
The city has long tried to have the Toronto area owners of the building make necessary repairs to the building but has been unsuccessful.
Mayor Jim Harrison says the building is a danger to the public.
“You can’t just leave it and expect it to stand forever because it’s not going to. We’ve assessed it and determined it needs to come down and it needs to come down now!”
The costly demolition will be assessed against the owners’ taxes.
After the building is gone a parkette will be created in the space for the time being.
