Dr. Piotr Oglaza says ongoing efforts are needed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The Medical Officer of Health for Hastings and Prince Edward was on the Lorne Brooker Show today and says the increased provincial numbers are worrisome.
He did note the numbers we are seeing today are reflective of two weeks ago and Oglaza said it is hard to predict what the numbers could reflect in two weeks time.
The Health Unit is reporting no new cases of the virus and no active cases in our region today.
Oglaza says residents need to watch their own symptoms and act accordingly as people are suffering from both seasonal allergies and colds already.
When it comes to school aged children, he says if they have any of the possible symptoms of COVID-19, Oglaza recommends getting a test done and then waiting 24 hours after that symptom has abated before the child returns to school.
Oglaza also noted herd immunity happens gradually over time but that is not a responsible or ethical way for them to go about treating this virus.
The Health Unit recommends washing your hands frequently, using hand sanitizer, wearing a mask in public when maintaining a safe distance of two metres is not possible and staying home if sick.
