It doesn’t look like the COVID-19 crisis has had a major impact on the local hotel business.
Dug Stevenson of the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board told Belleville’s Economic and Destination Development Committee Thursday that area hotels were bustling with visitors in July, to the point that this area has been one of the busiest in Canada.
“We had the second highest occupancy percentage in the country. We were actually second only in July to Kelowna, BC at 71.6% and if you look at January to July, we were sixth in the country in occupancy too.”
He says occupancy at Belleville’s 120 or so Airbnbs in July was around 95%, with an average of 5.7 guests per property, showing that despite the pandemic, people are still visiting here.
It was also noted that no local cases of COVID-19 have been linked to tourists visiting the Quinte Region.
