Hunting season opens on September 15 for a water fowl well known in the Quinte region and elsewhere.
Late in July the Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry John Yakabuski announced a fall hunt for double-crested Cormorants across the province.
The hunt will last until December 31 and hunters can take up to 15 birds a day.
Cormorants are voracious eaters and not popular with commercial or sport fishers because of their appetite for bait fish.
Also their excrement, or guano, destroys all manner of vegetation including trees.
Cormorants have seriously damaged islands in the Presqu’ile Park area in the past.
