One of Canada’s oldest nature conservation charities wants people to join an effort to forever protect Prince Edward County’s South Shore from future development and industrial activity.
Nature Canada, formerly the Canadian Nature Federation and before that the Canadian Audubon Society has started an online petition to be sent to local politicians and the provincial government.
The petition asks that the province ban development on the South Shore by designating Point Petre Provincial Wildlife Area and Ostrander Point Crown Land Block as Conservation Reserves.
The County’s South Shore is the last significant stretch of undeveloped shoreline on Lake Ontario’s northern shore and is an internationally renowned refuge for migratory birds.
