A Belleville councillor is planning to join the race to become the federal Conservative Party candidate for Bay of Quinte.
In a message to supporters on Thursday, Ryan Williams says he plans to run for the nomination and will make a formal announcement next week.
The first-term councillor and local businessman is the son of former longtime Quinte West Mayor John Williams and joins the race against former Centre Hastings Deputy Mayor Shelby Kramp-Neumann.
Current Candidate of Record Tim Durkin, who lost the last election to Neil Ellis by about 1,000 votes, has indicated he will seek the nomination again as well.
The local riding association hasn’t yet set a date to elect its next candidate.
