Callaghan’s Rapids conservation area near Marmora and Stirling is under attack.
The area, 400 acres of wilderness right on the Crowe river, has seen an increasing amount of damage in recent years. Broken glass, garbage being left and gouges in the land left from ATVs and trucks have left the land in rough shape.
General Manager Tim Pidduck is now pleading with the public to stop tearing up the area with all-terrain vehicles and garbage left from illegal parties. A release from the conservation area called the damage an “assault on this prime wilderness environment”.
The Crowe Valley Conservation Authority has said it simply doesn’t have the resources to continue repairing all the damage and is begging the public to stop mistreating the area.
