Quinte Access Executive Director Shelly Ackers tells Quinte News, “People have needed this service for a long time. This is what we’re considering the first milestone step with providing that regional approach to transit because we are working with Belleville Transit to hook up at their hub.”
“It really will be regional transit once we get Quinte West coming in. The access to the area is going to be tremendous and it’s just going to open up so many doors for people in this area. I think that they couldn’t go because of lack of transportation and lack of funds.”
Following the ceremony Mayor Steve Ferguson said that the service is vitally important since many people don’t have the capability to drive, and he indicated it’s long overdue.
“It’s going to enable people to affordably travel from Picton, Bloomfield to Belleville and transportation routes available in Belleville, so people can migrate out to Quinte West. To wherever they need to go, whether it’s for business purposes or for school or elsewhere.”
“We’ve got an awful lot of municipality here, 1,050 square kilometres. Not everybody has the capability or the ability to drive, so, providing this service is long overdue.”
President of the Community Foundation Brian Beiles tells Quinte News, ” Certainly a great step forward.”
“Transportation has been identified as a major barrier or impediment to things like food and security, learning, education, a variety of things. So, it impacts so many things
