An operational pause has been lifted on the Canadian Forces Snowbirds following the the crash that killed Public Affairs Officer Captain Jenn Casey.
The CT-114 Tutor Fleet had been grounded since the incident on May 17, when the jet crashed shortly after taking off from a small airport in Kamloops B.C.
2 Canadian Air Division Commander Brigadier-General Denis O’Reilly says the return to flying follows a thorough technical and operational risk analysis, which made detailed and deliberate recommendations to enhance the safety of the planes, including some restrictions on flying operations and increased maintenance requirements.
The Snowbirds’ 2020 demonstration season has already been cancelled and the team will gradually get back in the air, with the jets returning to 15 Wing Moose Jaw, from Kamloops over the next couple of weeks.
An investigation into the crash from the Directorate of Flight Safety is still ongoing.
