A 22-year-old Quinte West resident is in custody following a stabbing incident in Brighton on the weekend.
Northumberland OPP were called to a Brighton home just before 11 p.m. on Sunday for a stabbing that had possibly left the victim dead.
Officers attended the scene and administered first aid for the life-threatening injuries until paramedics arrived and transported the victim to the hospital.
While on scene, police learned the alleged suspect had fled in the victim’s vehicle.
Around 11:10 p.m., Quinte West OPP were conducting radar enforcement on Carrying Place Road and observed a vehicle travelling 113 km/h in a 50 zone.
The vehicle was pulled over and it was determined the driver Shane Hamilton was wanted on an arrest warrant from the Ottawa area and was placed under arrest. It was then made known that Hamilton was a suspect in the stabbing in Brighton and was charged with attempted murder.
He is also facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle, failure to comply with a release order, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and aggravated assault.
Hamilton attended court on Monday and was held in custody pending the investigation.
