After consulting with some of the mayors of Quinte region communities, the chair of Quinte Health Care’s Board of Directors doesn’t expect the demand for health care services to lessen anytime soon.
David MacKinnon told a meeting of QHC’s Board of Directors yesterday (Tuesday) that the mayors all mentioned similar concerns that will affect health care.
One was that more people, usually older, are moving to this area from the big city to live permanently, increasing pressure on the system.
Another was that the Covid pandemic had led to noticeably higher unemployment in the area with the spinoff effects of higher drug and alcohol abuse.
