Discussions are in the very early stages, but there may be a park or recreational area coming to a piece of land at the west end of the Murray Canal.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison tells Quinte News he met with Brighton Mayor Brian Ostrander, Parks Canada representatives and some other local officials on Monday, to discuss the potential for developing the land, which sits just south of Brighton Speedway, along the Trent-Severn Waterway.
Historic Murray Canal District Chair David Dingle was part of that meeting as well and says the constructive and wide-ranging discussion hit a few different points.
Harrison says the eventual goal is to improve the area for nearby residents and boaters passing through.
He added that there will definitely be plenty of public consultation with residents in the area, but calls it a “longterm project” that will likely take a couple of years to develop.
