- Everyone is welcome to visit and live in the Quinte region. That was a message hammered home today (Tuesday) by the mayors of Belleville, Quinte West, and Prince Edward County as well as the MPP for Bay of Quinte riding.
This is the season when hundreds of members of the military are either transferred away from 8 Wing Trenton or start arriving and moving to the area for a tour of duty.
Some residents have spotted out of province licence plates and hurled abuse at drivers and others on the street thinking they’re tourists and wrongly believing they’re bringing COVID-19 with them.
Mayor of Quinte West Jim Harrison said “it’s sad, really sad. It’s true people have been sitting home for a long time and some people get to focusing too much on the negative. People in the military are just like you and I. They’re not one bit different.”
Military transfers continue until the end of August.
