There is some hope that some late summer events in Quinte West could avoid being cancelled.
While some major events like the Trenton Scottish/Irish Festival, Quinte Ribfest and a number of minor soccer tournaments have already been cancelled, Director of Planning Brian Jardine told Council on Monday night that others scheduled for August and September could go ahead, as long as certain rules are followed.
City staff will meet with organizers, who want to see their events move forward and make sure they are meeting all the requirements, public health protocols and other protective measures and then decide if they’re able to go ahead.
Some of the events that could still go on include:
- Weekly Sunday Night Cruise Car Shows in the parking lot north of the Chamber of Commerce
- The FLW Fishing Tournament (Aug.22 & 23) whose event protocols and plan have already been cleared by the Health Unit
- Ride for Paws (Aug.23) with format modifications
- The Quinte Criterium Cycling Race (Aug.30). This even has yet to be sanctioned and put on the official Ontario Cycling Association Calendar
While the Summer Concert Series in Frankford and Trenton could also go ahead, staff are concerned that a lack of entertainment options could lead to an overflow of people at those sites, so they will need to look at some other options to limit the crowd and follow social distancing rules.
