The Mayor of Quinte West is reaffirming the city’s commitment to diversity and inclusion and says councillors will be taking some training on that in the near future.
Councillor Fred Kuypers had come under fire recently for comments made to a pair of local business owners and shortly after, it was announced that all of Quinte West Council would be going through that training, with the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion.
Mayor Jim Harrison says the training is just as important as learning technical skills and it’s important to make sure Quinte West is a place where people feel safe and included.
“It would be very beneficial for all of us, I would hope that we all attend. I think they’re both very educational and very helpful in how you look at other people and deal with situations.”
The online training will take place in the fall and will be paid for with money already set aside for staff training in the 2020 budget.
