Cobourg police were in the area of Danforth Road around 2:30 p.m. Saturday after they received calls about gunfire.
Police blocked the road and evacuated one person safely. There were no injuries.
It was discovered that a man was target shooting and was unaware that his rounds were landing in an unsafe area.
Forty-year-old Ken Goobie of Sarborough was charged with careless use of a firearm and his firearms licence was confiscated.
