Abandoned Vehicle – No Insurance Charge
On July 16, 2020 at approximately 8:45 a.m., a city officer was in the Via Rail parking lot observing traffic when they observed a vehicle approach the stop sign at Bleecker Avenue and Station Street and stop at the stop sign and exit the vehicle while on the road. The driver went into a store leaving the driver’s door open. The officer circled around to approach the vehicle and then observed the driver exit the store and walk away, heading towards a complex nearby leaving the vehicle unattended on the street. The officer recognized the driver. The officer checked the plate of the suspect vehicle which was determined to have no insurance attached it. The vehicle was towed from the scene by police and the officer attended the residence where the suspect was observed entering. The officer made contact with the suspect driver at the front door who was then wearing different clothing.
The suspect driver, a 51-year-old Belleville resident, was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with No Insurance and issued a summons for Provincial offences court where he is scheduled to attend on August 10 to answer to his charge.
Motor Vehicle Collision with Injuries
On July 16, 2020 at approximately 1:20 p.m., police were advised of a motor vehicle collision on Blessington Rd. in Thurlow Township with one vehicle in the ditch and both vehicles severely damaged with airbags deployed. Thurlow Township Fire Rescue and City EMS were dispatched to the scene as well.
Both drivers were taken to Belleville General Hospital with unknown injuries but were confirmed to be in stable condition and not to be life-threatening. It took emergency crews approximately an hour to clear the wreckage from the roadway and both vehicles were removed via recovery tow.
A Belleville man was charged with one count of Turn Left – Not in Safety.
Bail Conditions – Fail to Comply
On July 16, 2020 at approximately 1:30 p.m., city police received a call from the Judicial Bail Program advising that one of their clients was breaching his no communication order with his previous victim. Officers attended the victim’s residence on Bridge St. W. and found the accused located within, which the accused was restricted from attending. The accused was taken into custody and held at the Belleville Police Service.
The accused, a 51-year-old Belleville resident was held in custody and will attend a Show cause Hearing on July 17 to answer to his charge.
Motor Vehicle Collision
On July 16, 2020 at approximately 2:30 p.m., city police attended the intersection of Wallbridge-Loyalist Rd. and Moira St. W. in regards to a two-motor vehicle collision. There were no injuries reported. A 26-year-old Belleville man was charged with Improper Right Turn.
Drive Suspended / Plates Not Authorized
On July 16, 2020 at approximately 3 p.m., a city officer conducted a traffic stop on Emily St. at Lingham St. The vehicle stop investigation revealed that the female driver was a suspended driver in the province of Ontario and the plates on the vehicle did not belong to that vehicle.
The 37-year-old Belleville woman was issued two summonses, charged with Suspended Driving and Plates Not Authorized. The vehicle was seized for seven days. The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Provincial Offences Court on August 10 to answer to her charges.
Theft of Boating Equipment
On July 16, 2020 at approximately 3 p.m., city police were dispatched to an east end storage business in regards to the theft of boating/fishing equipment. Police met the complainant at the storage facility and found that a Garmin Marine GPS system and a Garmin fish finding computer were taken by unknown suspect(s) sometime between July 6, 2020 and July 13, 2020. There were obvious signs that the cabin of the boat was entered but no damage to the vessel was reported. The value of the stolen equipment is estimated at $1300.

Breach of Undertaking
On July 16, 2020 at approximately 6:45 p.m., city police attended a residence on Cannifton Rd. in regards to a male trashing the residence. Upon police arrival, officers spoke to a female who advised that her sister’s ex-boyfriend attended the residence and was causing a disturbance. Officers located the male suspect and confirmed that the suspect was on a court order to have no communication with his ex-girlfriend or to be at her residence.
Officers arrested the male for two counts of Breach of Undertaking and transported him to the Belleville Police Service where he was held in custody for a Show Cause Hearing scheduled for July 17 at 11 a.m. in front of a Justice to answer to his two charges.
The name of the accused is not being released to protect the identity of the female victim in this matter.
Disturbance at Hotel
On July 16, 2020 at approximately 8 p.m., city police were notified by an employee at a North Front St. hotel that there was a man laying on the ground in the parking lot beside a motorcycle. Hotel employees asked the gentleman to leave the property but he became verbally aggressive with the employees. Officers arrived on scene shortly thereafter and spoke to the gentleman who was not cooperative. The gentleman advised he was from Toronto and heading to Montreal. He then attempted to get on the motorcycle but officers stopped him because the motorcycle was unplated and had no insurance. Police had the motorcycle removed from the property at the request of the hotel staff as he was not a patron. Police assisted the gentleman in getting a room at a local shelter for the evening until the morning when he could make proper arrangements to get the proper paperwork for his bike.
Thirty minutes later, the gentleman called the 911 emergency lines three times demanding his motorcycle back. He was cautioned for improper use of the 911 system. The gentleman began causing a disturbance at the shelter and continued to call 911 demanding his bike to be returned. Police reattended the shelter and the gentleman was uncorporative with the police and continued to cause a disturbance. Officers apprehended him for the disturbance and transported him the Belleville Police service to calm down. The gentleman advised officers at the station that he was experiencing some medical discomfort from a previous medical issue so officers assisted him to the Belleville General Hospital where he received treatment and remained for the rest of the evening without incident.
Unwanted Person at a Business
On July 16, 2020 at approximately 11:30 p.m., police dispatched received a call from a south end gas station that there was a gentleman on a motorcycle giving the attendants a hard time and would not leave the business property when asked to do so by the employees. They advised the gentleman that they contacted police and the suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. Officers requested to review the business’s CCTV video system and they identified the suspect who was known to the officers.
Police attended the residence of the suspect and served him with a trespass notice not to be at the business in the future. No charges were laid.
