Twenty-five clear spinning prisms now line Front Street in downtown Belleville.
The Prismatica art installation got its official introduction Thursday night along the street in the heart of downtown where it will be for the next four weeks. The spinning prisms reflect lights and can be spun manually to create a brilliant and colourful effect.
Executive Director of the Downtown District of Belleville MariJo Cuerrier says they had to get creative with this year’s summer plans given COVID-19 restrictions. She remarked after the success of last year’s “Downtown at Dusk” event, which she says drew a crowd of approximately 3,000 people, they had to change their direction this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk and Councillor Garnet Thompson were also on hand to officially introduce the art installation. The prisms will remain on Front Street until August 16 and are a part of this summer’s “Twilight Thursdays” where businesses downtown will be open later for people to enjoy the lights.
