The Premier of Ontario is impressed with Belleville council’s recently approved operations budget.
The budget actually reduced property taxes slightly, a move which is almost unheard of.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk said Premier Doug Ford called him last Thursday to congratulate council on its budget and asking him how it was done.
Panciuk said most of the heavy lifting was done by city staff.
Ford, who has served on Toronto city council, told the mayor he understood the challenges faced by every local council as they work to keep taxes under control.
