The Acting Medical Officer of Health for Hastings and Prince Edward counties praised local health care workers and the general public at a meeting of Belleville council last night (Monday).
Dr. Alexa Caturay said people had responded well to directions and restrictions from the health unit in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
However Dr. Caturay also said it would be naive to expect the area to not have any more cases of covid because people are free to travel as they wish.
“What we’re doing as a health unit and with our health care partners in this quiet period is being sure we’re ready to act quickly to handle any new cases effectively and we intend to be.”
There hasn’t been a new case of the coronavirus in either Hastings or Prince Edward County since May 18.
Meanwhile, with most of the province entering Phase 3 of reopening Friday, Dr Caturay says new directions on how to handle the new freedoms will be released soon.
And, as an aside, people will be allowed to remove their face masks when dining inside a restaurant starting Friday.
