There will be one major change to the upcoming school calendar with the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board.
Director of Education Sean Monteith told the Committee of the Whole Monday afternoon that the year will now start with three PD days, in order to get teachers back up to speed.
That means the first day of school for students would be Thursday September 3.
He says those PD days being removed from their originally scheduled dates in November and April.
Monteith added the current plan is to still end the school year on June 24, 2021 and that as of right now, there is no change to the start of the winter holiday break on December 21, or the March break on March 15.
He says they’re trying to be as “consistent and predictable as possible” and “it’s not going to be an easy transition” but says there is still a lot of uncertainty around things.
He also noted that parents should expect to be asked to give some input, likely in August, so they can get an idea of how many students may come back to school and how many might continue to be home-schooled, in order to make some decisions on staffing and programming before the school year begins.
