High speed internet, or the lack thereof, in rural areas was discussed at a virtual Thurlow Ward Town Hall meeting last night.
Someone asked Thurlow councillor Paul Carr, the meeting’s host, why the city couldn’t step up and pay for high speed internet to be installed in Thurlow on its own.
Carr explained that at least two different high speed internet projects were underway, with one of them receiving funding from the city.
He said the city just couldn’t afford to do it on its own.
And he added that most tax revenue for the city came from urban residents and it would be a hard sell to have them pay for a service in the rural area that they were already getting.
Work has been underway for a few years to bring high speed internet to Eastern Ontario.
