With many charity tournaments cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the TMHF Golf Classic committee took serious consideration with regard to continuing the annual Golf Classic tournament in 2020. Upon deliberation, it was agreed the Golf Classic, a signature event in the Quinte region, will go on, with the guidelines of social distancing and ensuring the safety of all who golf, volunteer and work at the tournament.
In August 2019, nearly 200 golfers filled the greens of two golf courses at Oak Hills Golf Couse in support of the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation and raised a record-breaking $102,000 for life-saving medical equipment.
“We are happy to work with Oak Hills Golf Course, knowing that in 2019, with 196 golfers and 58 volunteers, we were able to raise $102, 500 for SMART IV pumps and other medical equipment. This year, because we are able to use two full courses, our golfers and volunteers can rest assured the tournament will continue to be a great day on the greens in support of TMHF, with a few small adjustments such as scheduled tee times and individual carts for golfers, to ensure everyone is safe and enjoys their day.” said Peter Webb, Board member and Chair of the event.
This tournament has raised more than $1.2 million since its’ inception more than 16 years ago and has evolved to become the premier tournament in the Quinte region, including local business leaders, dignitaries and members of the medical community. In recent years, the Golf Classic has raised funds to support the purchase of a CT scanner, Smart IV pumps and more. “This year, in particular, Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation needs the support of our sponsors, golfers and community more than ever. COVID-19 has posed a particular funding challenge as we strive to meet the needs of not only supplying medical equipment for Trenton Memorial Hospital, but essential PPE for our staff to ensure they remain safe as they do their work caring for patients every day.”, noted Wendy Warner, Executive Director of TMHF.
