With the province still in a state of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most public Canada Day events have been cancelled or altered in some way.
Here’s what’s going on in the Bay of Quinte to celebrate 153 years of Canada in 2020:
In Belleville, this year’s in-person event, usually at Zwick’s park, has been cancelled due to the province’s limit on gatherings. This year’s event will feature a parade of cars decorated for Canada Day that will go by hospitals and retirement homes, a children’s drawing contest where submissions of drawings of “COVID heroes” by children under 12 are being accepted and submissions for community heroes are being accepted and will be acknowledged by MP Neil Ellis and MPP Todd Smith on Canada Day.
More information on Belleville’s event is available on Belleville’s Canada Day website or the Belleville Canada Day Facebook page.
For information on Prince Edward County’s virtual Canada Day event see the PEC Canada Day Facebook page.
In Quinte West, the event is officially going virtual. The online Canada Day event for Quinte West will feature a variety of events including an interactive dance party, cooking demonstrations, crafts and appearances from people in the community among other events. Information for the Quinte West virtual Canada Day event is available on the event’s Facebook page.
The municipality of Brighton has also moved its Canada Day event online. The event will feature 11 local performances that will be hosted on Youtube, Facebook and on YourTv Cogeco. Information for the Brighton event can be found on the municipality’s website.
