The City of Belleville is getting set to open the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre as a cooling centre on hot days, but some extra precautions are being put in place, to fall in line with pandemic-related guidelines.
A designated area of the wellness centre will be open to members of the public, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., when there is a forecast for two or more straight days with temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius, or humidex values of 35 degrees Celsius.
But a memo from city hall Wednesday says staff will be on site when the cooling centre is open and anyone who visits will need to be screened for COVID-19 and will have to provide contact information, in case someone at the centre develops the virus down the line.
Washrooms will be available and cleaned hourly, with physical distancing measures put in place.
