David Ayres name has become synonymous with every Canadian kid’s childhood dream. He went between the pipes for the Carolina Hurricanes following injuries to the Hurricane’s James Reimer and Peter Mrazek.
The 42-year-old backstopped the Hurricanes to a 6-3 win, becoming one of the great sports stories ever.
He will be the special guest with the Trenton Golden Hawks for their annual fundraiser to support the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation. The night is called Hawks for Health Care at the Hangar.
Members of the G-Hawks will be wearing commemorative jerseys in warm-up that will be signed by Ayres and put up for auction to support the hospital foundation.
Ayres will drop the puck with supporting partners (Smylie’s Independent, Leon’s Superstore Trenton, and Family Dental Centre, and those with the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation. Autographs will be signed and pictures posed for by donation. Proceeds of the evening go the TMHF.
The date of the game is not yet known, but it will take place on a Friday evening before Christmas at a Trenton Golden Hawks home game at the Duncan McDonald Memorial Community Gardens.

He was awarded Feel-Good Moment with the NHL Fan Choice Awards, won his first NHL game at the age of 42, and is having a feature film made about his story.
David Ayres, the famed zamboni driver who suited up for the Carolina Hurricanes in February, is joining the Trenton Golden Hawks to support the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation. He is the special guest for “Hawks for Health Care at the Hangar.”
Ayres says, “When the GHawks reached out and asked if I wanted to help, it was an easy decision. I cannot wait to meet with the Hawks fans, watch some great hockey, and help the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation.”
Executive Director for the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation Wendy Warner says, “We are thrilled to hear that David Ayres has agreed to support the foundation. His story is one of childhood dreams.” Warner added, “Time and time again the Trenton Golden Hawks have supported TMHF. We are so excited for Hawks for Health Care at the Hangar.”
Director of Operations for the Golden Hawks John McDonald says, ” We all understand how important health care is, especially in the era of a pandemic. Hawks for Health Care at the Hangar will help with PPE (personal protective equipment) for our front-line workers, and ensure the TMH, continues to be a pillar of the community. We are excited to welcome David as our special guest for an evening that is about hockey, health care, and having fun.”

David Ayres, the evenings partners and the TMHF family will drop the puck, with members of the TMHF family. Ayres will sign autographs and pose for photos with fans (by donation to TMHF). Each member of the Trenton Golden Hawks will also wear commemorative David Ayres/TMHF jerseys in warm up, with Ayres name and number on the back. Ayres has also agreed to sign the jerseys, which will be up for auction during the game.
