Quinte region nurses will be joining others across Ontario on Monday protesting the provincial government’s legislation mandating no more than a 1% pay increase in each of the next three years.
In the midday, local nurses will be protesting Bill 124 outside MPP Todd Smith’s office in Rossmore.
Local nurse Nancy Hill says expecting nurses to bear the brunt of what the government calls necessary fiscal restraint is just a slap in the face when others in the public sector, such as police officers and firefighters, are allowed to get pay increases above 1%.
The province has said the 1% pay limit was a decision made by an arbitrator, independent from the government.
