Residents in the Tamworth area are pushing back against plans for a large scale hog farm in their area.
The Concerned Citizens for our Community Environments group says it has found approximately 24 issues with a proposal from Slack Family Farms to start the 1,200 pig farm on property on Wadell Road in Erinsville.
Spokesperson Susan Moore tells Quinte News the main concerns surround the potential impacts of agricultural runoff into the nearby Salmon River Watershed, which could eventually trickle into the Bay of Quinte.
Moore says the group feels like the farm is “not a family farm in the true sense of the word” and their fight is in the best interests of the greater community.
That matter is being brought up again by Stone Mills Township Council at a special meeting this coming Monday, starting at 5:30 p.m.
