The chairperson of Bay of Quinte Pride is firing back at a local MP for his recent comments about conversion therapy for LGBTQ youth.
Hastings-Lennox and Addington MP Derek Sloan’s comments this week accused the Liberal Government of child abuse for not allowing parents to have their kids take part in conversion therapy programs.
John Ross Parks spoke at Belleville’s pride flag raising ceremony on Friday and says Sloan has “forgotten who he represents” and is “twisting the language of the laws that are put in place to protect LGBTQ children”.
Parks says people have ignored Sloan’s rhetoric for too long.
He adds that it’s hard to hear those words coming from the mouth of a local elected official and “his opinions are his opinions and they don’t align with Canadian values”.
