Prince Edward County is looking towards shifting the way they do meetings in order to make things a little more convenient.
At a virtual Committee of the Whole meeting of council on Thursday, council voted in favour of electronic participation in future meetings.
Councils province-wide are participating in meetings electronically, but it’s only temporary.
The Municipal Act allows for councils to meet electronically when a provincial or municipal state of emergency is issued, but outside of that it is not an option.
Council in Prince Edward County is looking at having electronic participation as part of their regular meetings.
Clerk Catalina Blumenberg says they have seen the best and worst of electronic participation recently.
Until the Municipal Act is changed, outside of an emergency, councillors would be able to participate but their vote would not count nor would they count towards quorum.
CAO Marcia Wallace told council the province isn’t looking into changing the Municipal Act by-law aggressively because they believe they have time to look into the matter.
Council passed the motion to have electronic participation and also passed a second motion put forward by Phil Prinzen to have council meet physically, while following physical distancing guidelines as soon as possible.
