Quinte Health Care will begin to schedule surgeries starting next week.
After receiving the green light from the province, QHC will slowly resume surgeries and procedures that were postponed due to COVID-19.
There are over 1,500 patients awaiting surgical procedures, with approximately 875 delayed says President and CEO May Clare Egberts.
A number of precautions will remain in place for those coming to the hospital for procedures, including the continued limitation of visitors, maintaining physical distancing, COVID-19 screening and plexiglass barriers.
Egberts states while QHC wants to provide care as soon as possible, the top priority is to make sure everyone – patients and staff – is safe in hospitals during this pandemic.
Weekly reviews will be conducted to ensure hospitals can continue to meet expected criteria in terms of available resources, including PPE supply. Services may need to ramp down again on short notice if the situation with COVID changes or if there are any resource limitations.
