Northumberland County is being forced to take the Loomis Bridge in Brighton out of service.
The small bridge on Pinewood School Road has had load restrictions in place for years, due to its deteriorating condition and staff now say an inspection done in May has shown “a level of structural decline” that can’t be repaired.
The single-lane bridge is being closed effective immediately, with barriers and signs being put up at the site, to notify drivers and residents.
Staff say the Loomis Bridge typically sees some of the lowest traffic volume of all 112 bridges the county manages and that there won’t be any significant impact to drivers, who will be redirected onto County Road 30 moving forward.
