The Government of Ontario announced Thursday that marinas, boat clubs and public boat launches can open for recreational use on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at 12:01 am.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with our Townships are requesting boaters follow these recommendations and tips:
- Contact the marina or storage facility where your vessel is located in advance to ensure it is accessible and ready for use. Be patient as these businesses will need time to prepare your vessel.
- Make sure your vessel has all the required safety equipment before launching. Any operator who is unsure of the equipment required for their vessel please view the Transport Canada Safe Boating Guide at https://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/marinesafety/debs-obs-menu-1362.htm.
- The Trent Severn Waterway is not expected to open until June 1, 2020 and water levels are very low for this time of year. This means that channel markers, hazard markers and buoys have not been properly placed after the winter. Use caution when operating your vessel even if you are familiar with the body of water you are on.
- Do not consume any alcohol or drugs if you plan on operating a vessel. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.

The following Public Health Ontario recommendations remain in place:
- Maintain a distance of two metres from those around you.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when physical distancing is difficult to maintain.
- Clean your hands with alcohol based hand sanitizer or soap and water.
- Don’t touch your nose, mouth or eyes with unwashed hands.
- Avoid large crowds or gatherings.
