A long-term project to bring improved coverage and capacity for broadband service in eastern Ontario is moving toward the construction phase.
Yesterday (Tuesday) the Eastern Ontario Regional Network issued its first Request for Proposals to build new cellular and internet infrastructure.
The Request for Proposals will identify the telecommunications partners who will best be able to provide better cell phone coverage and high speed internet service to the region.
The project is expected to cost around $220 million, with municipal, provincial, and federal governments providing $152 million of the total.
Telecommunications companies would pick up the rest of the tab.
