The Green Task Force would like to remind residents that there are many ways you can celebrate Earth Day at home on April 22 including:
-
Organizing a garbage pick-up with your household. Litter is especially visible this time of year and collecting garbage along trails and sidewalks when out for a walk is a great way to make a difference while keeping active. However, we ask you to follow these precautions: wear gloves, use a garbage picker if you have one, practice physical distancing of at least two metres apart from others and wash your hands with soap and water as soon as you get home. A reminder that parks remain closed and trails are open for walk-through access only. Please obey posted signage and remember to keep things moving while out and about.
-
Starting your own veggie seedlings or building a garden bed. The Belleville Public Library has put together an amazing resource on their website highlighting gardening eBooks, courses and more: https://bellevillelibrary.ca/services-s2187.php
-
Committing to reducing your food waste. Check out these 12 food waste reduction tips. An added bonus? Reducing food waste means fewer trips to the grocery store!
-
Listening to an eco-minded podcast. Zero Waste Countdown is packed with useful tips and engaging content from experts all around the globe. Bonus: it’s hosted and produced right next door in Tyendinaga Township by Laura Nash.
