The COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t stopped the volunteers of the Not Alone Team-Quinte.
In coordination with other organizations providing meals to the homeless and marginalized in Belleville, Bridge Street United Church and the
Salvation Army, the Not Alone Team (NAT) is providing warm meals, either by the week or daily, to 83 people.
NAT spokesperson Debbie Lee says the demand for home-cooked meals increased dramatically because of the pandemic, from around 25 deliveries a day to the current 83.
“And the calls keep coming. Just last night (Sunday) three more isolated people got in touch with me to have meals delivered.”
Of the 83 people now receiving meals, 41 are homeless with others being seniors or people otherwise isolated due to the pandemic.
Over the weekend the team cooked almost 500 meals for the coming week.
The group’s costs are either covered through donations or from the volunteer’s own pockets.
“We’ve applied for a grant and are waiting on a reply but we’re running really short and donations to help keep us going would be much
appreciated as soon as possible,” says Lee.
