Sofina Foods may not be able to make masks or face shields, but they’ve found a way to help out our front line workers another way.
Belleville Plant Manager Craig Dawson says they donated 200 sandwiches to hospital staff at Belleville General and 100 sandwiches to Trenton Memorial Hospital.
He says they are going to convert one of their lines and that gives them the ability to make a lot of sandwiches in a short period of time.
Sofina Foods, located on Bell Blvd., specializes in deli meat production and employs 65 people and Dawson says in the year he’s been in his role, they’ve been doing meat donations to soup kitchens, local churches and the Salvation Army.
He says they have reached the $5,000 mark in donations to the Salvation Army.
At Easter, because of the COVID-19 crisis, staff were given turkeys to take home but 15 employees donated their turkeys back to the company to give to places like the Salvation Army and soup kitchens.
Dawson told Quinte News he thought 200 sandwiches would be too many for BGH but was told they went quite quickly so he plans on making a larger donation next week.
