Belleville’s police chief says he’s proud of the way the police force has handled the COVID-19 pandemic in the city.
Chief Ron Gignac told the Police Services Board on Thursday that none of his officers or staff have contracted the novel coronavirus and the police service has taken extraordinary measures to limit its spread.
Gignac says screening measures and limits on members of the public who enter the building continue, essential staff are using one entrance and exit to the building and staff who don’t have to be at the police station are working from home.
The Chief added that they are keeping track of all COVID-19 related calls and expenses, in order to get some reimbursement for those costs from upper levels of government, should that opportunity arise.
