It looks like a good grain growing year for local farmers, but the price of corn doesn’t look promising.
The ground is dry and the winter wheat looks good at this stage.
That’s the word from Lloyd Crowe of Prince Edward County.
Crowe is the Director for District 13, Grain Farmers of Ontario.
Crowe tells Quinte News it’s a different story for corn, “The conditions look good but the price is terrible. During the COVID-19 lockdown people aren’t driving as much as they usually do. Since corn is used to make ethanol this affects the price. That’s a big concern.”
Crowe says he’s thankful to be a farmer and his thoughts go out to the people who are jobless because of the COVID19 shutdown.
“Oh I’m thankful to be a farmer. My heart goes out to the country and the people that are isolated and jobless, and no end in sight of how they’re going to recover from this.”
