Another major auto parts manufacturer in Belleville has been forced into significant COVID-19-related layoffs.
Quinte News has learned that Magna Autosystems which makes lighting systems for vehicles, has cut its entire production staff.
A Magna official tells us more than 1,100 staff have been sent home and the company’s early estimate to restart production is late April to early May, depending on the demand from major automakers.
Magna Autosystems joins another local auto parts plant, Hanon Systems, in laying off workers due to the coronavirus pandemic.
