The Medical Officer of Health for Prince Edward Hastings took some time to answer questions on COVID-19 Thursday afternoon and address concerns about how the virus is affecting our community, while also giving some tips on how to stay healthy during the pandemic.
During his 25 minute video presentation on the health unit’s Facebook page, Dr. Piotr Oglaza was asked about the number of cases locally and why the health unit is only releasing regional numbers and not specific locations of those cases.
As of 2:00 p.m. Thursday there were still just five lab-confirmed cases in the Hastings and Prince Edward area.
Dr. Oglaza was also asked about the number of tests locally and says more will be done eventually, as the government works to address a shortage of testing kits, but testing is only a priority if you have symptoms and they get severe.
He also was asked plenty of questions about how to grocery shop safely and he said it’s important to wipe down carts, but you don’t necessarily have to disinfect what you buy.
Dr. Oglaza plans to continue the video chats on a weekly basis moving forward and you can click here to visit the HPE Public Health Facebook page and see the full presentation.
