A second lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 has been identified in our community.
The Hastings-Prince Edward Public Health Unit says this second case is unrelated to the first case announced yesterday (Thursday) or those in quarantine at CFB Trenton.
The person recently returned from outside of the county, developed symptoms, and after seeking medical attention is now in self-isolation at home.
HPE Public Health Medical Officer of Health Dr. Piotr Oglaza says the best method for us to combat COVID-19 in our community is to stay home if possible, practice social distancing, avoid large gatherings and remain diligent with our hand washing and infection control practices.
Going forward, the health unit will report new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 on their website on the main COVID-19 page, which will be updated daily at 2 p.m.
Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam also confirmed earlier today via press conference there are now 12 confirmed cases of CVOID-19 at CFB Trenton of the more than 200 repatriated Canadians who disembarked from the Grand Princess cruise ship.
Canada’s total is now 926 cases.
