The Quinte Humane Society has joined others across the country in curtailing its operations in the face of the coronavirus scare.
The local humane society is not accepting owner surrenders, public strays, animal visits or adoptions through the shelter.
Cat adoption continues through the Petsmart adoption centre for the time being.
Only essential personnel are allowed to enter the shelter on Avonlough Road in Belleville but staff are answering phone calls and updating the society’s website.
People who find possible stray animals should contact the local animal control officer.
