Cancellations necessary but still disappointing for local athletes
While cancellations of leagues and events are in the best interest of public health it doesn’t mean less disappointment for those who have worked hard to organize and compete in these events.
For instance, the Provincial Figure Skating Championships were scheduled for the end of this month at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre. The Trenton and Stirling Figure Skating Clubs were working closely with Skate Ontario and the City of Belleville to co-host the event.
Stirling Figure Skating Club Vice President and Publicity Director Laurie McMurray says they have been preparing for more than a year. She says they understand the magnitude of the pandemic and agree with the decision to cancel for the health and well-being of all involved.
McMurray says organizers would like to congratulate local skaters that have worked hard to qualify and have been focused on training. She adds the process to qualify is not easy and these young skaters deserve recongnition.
