As Addictions Mental Health Services-Hastings Prince Edward continues to monitor the COVID-19 outbreak very closely, additional precautionary measures are being implemented.
Earlier this morning, the agency’s Emergency Operations Team met to formalize and implement an Outbreak and Pandemic Action Plan.
Out of an abundance of caution the agency has moved to a Pandemic Response Level 4 of their internal action plan, which includes the following measures:
1.Suspension of in-person Open Access and Central Intake programs. Central Intake Services by phone will still be provided.
2.Closure of the Men’s Residential Treatment Facility, indefinitely.
3.Suspension of all internal program level meetings
4.Clients can expect to be screened when coming for an appointment
5.While offices remain open for client appointments, all AMHS-HPE offices are closed to all visitors, which includes offices in Belleville, Trenton, Madoc, Picton, Bancroft and Tweed. Mail and courier deliveries are excepted. Support persons accompanying clients will be permitted.
6.Staff are being encouraged to work remotely, where possible.
Again, regularly scheduled appointments that clients have with AMHS-HPE remain unchanged, at this time.
As a result of the current COVID-19 situation and through conversations with the Ministry of Health, Community Care for Central Hastings will be taking the following measures to protect all volunteers, clients and staff.
- Effective Monday, March 16 and until further notice, the Diners Program, Friendly Active Living Exercise Program (Wednesdays at Timber Trails) and the Matthew Place Social will be CANCELLED.
- The Transportation Program will continue to transport clients to HIGH PRIORITY MEDICAL appointments only. In addition, all clients who are being transported will be screened prior to their trip.
- The Meals on Wheels deliveries of hot and frozen meals will continue, with some preventive measures implemented.
- The Home Making / Home Maintenance Program will continue to run, however a screening of both clients and brokered workers will be implemented on a regular basis.
Knights of Columbus Bingo in Trenton is cancelled until further notice.
The National Air Force Museum of Canada will be closed to the public from March 16-April 6.
The municipality of Prince Edward County is taking into consideration that many people in Prince Edward County depend on community services as well as tourism-related employment. While the situation is fast moving, the municipality has taken the following proactive steps:
- The municipality has cancelled all on-ice related activities at the Wellington and District Community Centre and the Prince Edward Community Centre as of 5 pm on Friday, March 13 following Hockey Canada’s decision to cancel the season. Refunds will be provided to impacted ice users. The municipality will begin removing the ice in both facilities because it is cost prohibitive to maintain the ice without hockey bookings.
- The municipality has cancelled all March Break activities at its recreation facilities, museums, and libraries following the Government of Ontario’s decision to close all public schools from March 14 through April 5. Refunds will be provided to parents impacted.
- The municipality will not accept any bookings for community centres or town halls in the foreseeable future. The municipality will honour existing bookings; however, check with the organizers to confirm the status of individual events as many have been cancelled already. The municipality has implemented enhanced cleaning measures in its buildings and recreation facilities to prevent community spread of the virus.
- H.J. McFarland Memorial Home, the municipality’s long-term care facility, is actively screening all staff, visitors, and volunteers given that the residents are a vulnerable population more susceptible to severe illness.
- Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health is recommending the cancellation of events with more than 250 people in attendance. Those planning tourism-related events or community activities should refer to Public Health Canada’s COVID-19 guide on risk-informed decision making for mass gatherings.
At this point, the County has not closed any municipal buildings. Council/Committee meetings will continue as planned.
